Whole Numbers, Fractions & Decimals
Place value, rounding, and fraction/decimal arithmetic, including mixed numbers.
This page is a free outline of what the Whole Numbers, Fractions & Decimals lesson covers — it is not the lesson itself. The interactive lesson, practice, quizzes, and AI Tutor are inside the app.
This lesson covers
- Converting Between Number Types Rewrite a fraction as a decimal (divide top by bottom), or a decimal back into a fraction.
- Decimals – Adding and Subtracting To add or subtract decimals, line up the decimal points, fill any empty places with zeros, then add or subtract as you would with whole numbers.
- Decimals – Multiplying and Dividing To multiply decimals, multiply as whole numbers, then place the decimal point by counting the total decimal places in both factors. To divide, first shift the decimal in both numbers to make the divisor a whole number.
- Fractions – Adding and Subtracting
- Fractions – Multiplying and Dividing
- Fractions – Mixed Numbers A mixed number combines a whole number and a fraction, such as 2½. Convert it to an improper fraction before you add, subtract, multiply, or divide.
- Fractions – Simplifying To simplify a fraction, divide its numerator and denominator by their greatest common factor, reducing it to lowest terms.
- Place Value Place value is the value a digit represents based on its position in a number — ones, tens, hundreds, tenths, hundredths, and so on.
- Rounding
