How to Use MathPath AI™

Studying for — the exam you're working toward

You picked one when you signed up, and you can change it any time in Account → Studying for: GED or HiSET, SAT or ACT, or just strengthening your math. It decides two things — which questions you practice on, and what your Skills Check standing is measured against. A GED or HiSET student works at Foundational and Test Ready level; an SAT or ACT student works at Test Ready and Challenge level, which includes college-entrance topics the GED never asks, such as arc length, sector area and circle equations. Nothing is hidden either way: every lesson and every difficulty level stays open to you, and changing your answer loses nothing you have already answered.

Smart Start — find your starting point

Not sure where to begin? Tap the Smart Start card (middle row, ✨) on your home screen. It's a short, low-pressure placement — not a test, nothing scored: for each lesson it shows a few questions, or you tap “I'm confident — skip to the next lesson.” Then it recommends where to begin and explains how, based on where you showed confidence and where you struggled.

Assessments — check a subject or a lesson

Tap the Assessments card on your home screen, then pick a Subject Assessment (a broad check across a whole subject, about 25–36 questions) or a Lesson Assessment (one lesson — every concept in it brought to a confident reading). Either surfaces the concepts you're weakest in and ends with a study plan pointing you to what to work on next. Every concept it tests counts toward your Skills Check proficiency, so retake anytime to keep building your standing. You can also launch either one from Skills Check with “Assess this subject ›” / “Assess this lesson ›.”

Skills Check — where do you stand?

Tap the “Skills Check” card on your home screen for an honest, up-to-date read of your standing. It's built only from questions you've been tested on — lesson quizzes, assessments, and teacher tests; open-book practice doesn't count, it's for learning. For each subject it shows how many concepts you're proficient on and how many have been assessed, with a bar where green means proficient, amber means assessed but not there yet, and empty means not yet tested. Tap a subject to see its lessons, then a lesson to see each concept — your accuracy and whether it's climbing. A concept counts as proficient once you've gotten it right at least 3 times and are above 75%; a subject stays “Needs more checks” until there's enough to judge. Each lesson and subject also shows a Composite Concept Score (CCS) — how you're doing across its concepts overall (your pooled accuracy on them). That's a different read from proficiency: you can have a strong CCS without being proficient in every single concept. Use “Browse all concepts” to see your standing on every concept and take a quick check on any of them.

AI Tutor

Your AI Tutor is available inside every lesson. Tap the AI Tutor tab in the navigation bar, or tap the Ask the AI Tutor button at the bottom of any lesson. Tap a suggestion bubble to get started, or type your own question.

Help Assistant

Need help finding your way around the app? Use the Ask the Help Assistant box at the top of this Help page to ask how-to questions like How do I take a quiz or How do I see my progress. It answers using this help guide and points you to the right button or tab. For help with an actual math problem, use the AI Tutor inside any lesson instead.

Browse Lessons

From your home screen, tap Browse Lessons and choose a subject (Basic Math, Algebra, Geometry, or Data Analysis & Functions). Each subject holds focused lessons — tap any lesson to begin.

Math Fact Flashcards

Lower on your home screen, tap one of the four Math Fact Flashcards buttons (Addition, Multiplication, Perfect Squares, or Square Roots) to drill core math facts that come up everywhere.

Study Plan

When your teacher assigns lessons, they appear on your home screen in the Study Plan section. Assigned lessons show a purple badge. Work through them in any order.

Assigned Tests

When a teacher or tutor assigns you a test, it appears in the Assigned Tests section on your home screen with the question count and any due date. Tap Start Test, answer every question (you can move back and forth before submitting), then submit to see your score. You get one attempt unless your teacher allows a retake. Some tests show explanations after you submit; if a diagram was hidden during the test, it's revealed in your review so you can see what the problem looked like.

Join a Class

On your home screen, use the Join a Class field to enroll in your teacher's class. Your teacher provides the class code. Once enrolled, you'll see class assignments and your teacher can track your progress.

Connect with a Tutor

On your home screen, use the Connect with a Tutor field to link your account to a private tutor. Your tutor provides their 7-character connection code. Once connected, your tutor can assign lessons and view your quiz progress.

Lesson tab

Inside a lesson, the Lesson tab shows structured content, worked examples, key formulas, glossary terms, and diagrams for that topic. Read through it before taking a quiz.

Quiz tab

Tap the Quiz tab to test yourself. Use the difficulty selector to choose Foundational, Test Ready, or Challenge. Your score is saved automatically.

Practice tab

Tap the Practice tab for practice problems on the current lesson. Each problem includes a step-by-step solution you can reveal. New problem sets are generated each time so you always have fresh material to work through. Use the difficulty selector to choose Mixed, Foundational, Test Ready, or Challenge — Mixed gives you a spread of all three levels and starts you on the easier ones, so you can work up. Practice is never scored and never counts toward your progress, so pick whatever level helps you learn.

Glossary

Tap Glossary in the top bar to look up key math terms for the current lesson. The button pulses red until you pass the glossary test, then turns green. The glossary shows terms specific to the lesson you are working on.

Formula sheets

While you're in a Practice set or Quiz, tap Formulas (top-right of the question) to open the reference sheets in a pop-out window — the official GED® and HiSET® formula sheets, plus a supplemental list of formulas to know from memory. The Calculator button sits right next to it.

Quiz history

Tap the clock icon in the bottom-right corner to review all past quiz scores, see which questions you got right or wrong, and filter by lesson.

Feedback button

Tap the feedback button (bottom-right corner of any screen) to report a bug, flag confusing content, or submit a suggestion.

Your Account panel

Tap "Your Account" in the top-right corner to edit your profile, change your email, change your password, or manage your account (reset progress or delete account). Links to Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Help are at the bottom of the panel.

Math Concept Reference

Tap the "Math Concept Reference A→Z" button at the top of this page, or open your Account panel and tap "Math Concept Reference", to browse an alphabetical index of 194 math concepts — each one linked directly to the lesson that covers it. Type any concept name or topic to filter the list instantly.
