Mode
The mode is the value that appears most often in a data set.

A data set can have no mode (if no value repeats), one mode, or multiple modes. When a data set has two modes it is called bimodal; three or more modes is called multimodal.
The mode is especially useful for categorical data — colors, sizes, preferences, types — where the mean and median have no meaning because there is no way to compute a meaningful average or middle value.
A common mistake is assuming every data set has a mode. If no value repeats, there is no mode — don’t force one.
Worked example
Find the mode of 7, 8, 8, 9, 9, 10.
- Count how often each value appears: 8 appears twice and 9 appears twice.
- Two values tie for most frequent, so there are two modes.
Bimodal — the modes are 8 and 9.
On the test: If a question asks for “the mode” of a bimodal set, both modes are correct.
